Springfield Striping & Sealing started in 1971 with a single striping machine and a founder who believed the job should be done right the first time. Over the decades, we’ve added asphalt, concrete, excavation, and complete pavement solutions. Still, our standard hasn’t shifted: a family-built company that shows up, does the work, and stands behind it.

Company History

1971

Gary Gilmore couldn’t find dependable striping service, so he built his own. With a $600 bank loan, a two-wheel trailer, and a single striping machine, he launched what would become one of Southwest Missouri’s most recognized pavement companies.

1979

At just 15 years old, Joe Manzardo joined Springfield Striping Service as the company’s third employee. Starting from the ground up, he learned every aspect of the business, from operations to customer relationships, while helping grow the company’s footprint throughout the Ozarks.

1984

Joe Manzardo purchased half the business from founder Gary Gilmore, becoming co-owner. Together, they continued building the company’s reputation across Southwest Missouri through dependable service, consistent quality, and long-term customer relationships that kept clients coming back.

1986

Growing customer demand led to a natural expansion into sealcoating services. Reflecting this broader range of pavement maintenance capabilities, the company officially became Springfield Striping & Sealing, a name that better represented what they had built and where they were headed.

1988

After years of helping grow the business from the inside, Joe Manzardo purchased the remaining ownership interest and became sole owner of Springfield Striping & Sealing, continuing to expand the company’s service capabilities and strengthen its presence throughout the region.

1992

As client relationships deepened, so did their needs. Clients began requesting more complete pavement solutions, and Springfield Striping & Sealing answered, expanding into asphalt patching and paving to deliver full-service pavement maintenance and repair from a single trusted contractor.

2007

Continued growth and increasing equipment demands led to the construction of a new 50,000-square-foot headquarters in Springfield’s Partnership Industrial Center East. Expanding fleet maintenance, storage, and production capacity and positioning the company for continued long-term regional growth.

2011

Springfield Striping & Sealing expanded operations into the Joplin market, adding dedicated local sales representation and full-time support staff. The move strengthened the company’s presence throughout Southwest Missouri and reinforced its commitment to rapid response and regional service.

2014

August Manzardo joined Springfield Striping & Sealing, bringing a second generation of family leadership to the business. Having grown up around the company, August carried forward the same dedication to customer relationships, hard work, and quality workmanship that defined the business from the start.

Present Day

More than 55 years, 100+ team members, and employees with 20, 30, and 40+ years of tenure. Springfield Striping & Sealing has grown from a single striping machine into one of the region’s leading pavement contractors, still guided by the same values Gary Gilmore started with in 1971.

    We handle projects ranging from routine pavement maintenance and repairs to large commercial, industrial, and municipal construction. Our capabilities include excavation and site preparation, asphalt paving and repair, concrete, sealcoating, crack sealing, striping, signage, and ongoing pavement maintenance. Having multiple services under one roof allows us to manage more of the project from start to finish.

  • How do you approach quality differently?

    Quality starts with doing the work correctly, even in the places customers can’t always see. We focus on proper preparation, drainage, base conditions, material quantities, application rates, compaction, and proven installation methods, instead of cutting corners to lower the initial price. Our goal is straightforward: do the job right and build it to last.

  • Do you help plan projects or just execute them?

    Both. We help customers assess existing conditions, set priorities, define the right scope of work, and plan projects around budgets and future property needs. We explain what the property needs now, what can wait, and how different maintenance and repair decisions affect pavement costs over time.

  • How do you minimize disruption during work?

    We know most properties need to stay operational while work is underway. Our team coordinates scheduling, phasing, traffic control, access, and communication around your business whenever possible. With experienced crews and the equipment to handle large projects, we keep customers, employees, deliveries, and normal operations moving while completing the work safely.
